At MRS Electronic, Inc., we pride ourselves on bringing the latest technology to our customers with high quality products that are accompanied by excellent customer service. We specialize in a wide range of technologies and the CAN Bus technology is just one of them.
CAN Bus is a component of a technique called multiplexing that is used in every modern car. The idea behind it is to allow the car parts to communicate with each other without a host computer and all of the excessive wiring that was required in older cars.
Invented by Granville T. Woods, multiplexing was first used in the 1880s in the telegraph system. In 1910, George Owen Squier applied that knowledge to the telephone system. Through wires, the system is able to share the information it receives from one source to different channels. For the first time in history, hundreds of people could have conversations long distance and at once simultaneously.
Before the technology was applied to cars, they required many wires that made installation and diagnostics not only challenging, but also expensive. Mechanics and engineers spent hours analyzing each and every wire to find the issue. Today, vehicles have several computers that are interconnected to allow the digitally encoded communication between all parts of the car. Along with being cheaper and easier to diagnose, this system allows car users, dealers, and manufacturers to make changes to the vehicle without changing any mechanical parts.
We have a marvelous reason to be talking about this, but we can’t reveal it just yet. Let’s just say that our engineers are working on exciting innovations and we cannot wait to share it with you. Follow us on social media for updates on this new product and other company news!
