The SEMA show is a well-known insider event for car aficionados, tuners, celebrities, engine swappers, custom performance part makers, muscle cars, and so much more. It takes place once a year in Las Vegas and is not open to the public. But contrary to popular slogans, what happens in Vegas does not stay in Vegas. Quite the opposite, many of these unique creations, new solutions, and cool innovations demonstrated here are part of a nationwide car customization industry.

Naturally, MRS Electronic, Inc., a Dayton, OH based supplier of aftermarket CAN controllers, smart relays, and custom automotive software had to be there too and see what’s brewing in the electronics department. Colin Beck, MRS Electronic’s software engineer and well-known car CAN-Guru and Franz Hoffmann, at the helm of MRS Electronic Inc., set out on a booth-by-booth tour to look for first hand evidence of new smart electronics and CAN bus solutions. We discovered plenty of opportunities. Later we sat down to talk shop over dinner with our friends at Flyin’ Miata, who have become famous for their V8 marriage with a stock MX5. They confirmed a hidden reality: Professional car customization increasingly needs seamless integration of factory CAN systems with aftermarket products. Good to know that our compact, automotive grade CAN Micro Gateways and CAN Micro Controllers can do just that!
